SESSIONS
What a therapy session may look like:
I listen carefully to the client, and we develop specific goals together. In art therapy, the client may wish to create, using any of the media available: crayons, pencils, coloured pencils, markers, oil pastels, chalk pastels, inks, watercolours, acrylic paints, oil paints, collage, modelling clay, air drying clay, etc. The client may have an idea in mind of what they’d like to create while others may want to respond to an art directive which I invite them to follow. Some clients may spend the entire session creating. Some will talk first, then create something, then talk about what it means for them. Others will create something and then talk about it. Both the process of creating and the discussion of what was created can be a jumping-off point to discussing what the client needs and wants to discuss. Other clients may specifically come for talk therapy. All the above are fine options. The goal is for the client to feel empowered and be helped by whatever form the therapy takes.
